July 2016 update!

Exhibition space at The Truman Brewery

As I sit here eating pick 'n' mix from a cup, I'm contemplating how fast the past month has gone and everything that I have managed to achieve.

I finally finished my photography degree, found out that I have passed and took part in the university degree show which was part of the Freerange shows photography week 1 at the Truman Brewery in Shoreditch.

With July came the month of Ramadan where fasting the 30 days seemed less of a spiritual awakening than the last as I was so busy with the degree show within the first two weeks. For those who don't know, Ramadan is the month 9th month in the Islamic calendar when the Holy Qur'an was revealed. We take this month to fast and purify our bodies and minds in order to focus more on prayer and to increase our recitation of the holy book.

It was two weeks of early mornings on 3-4 hours sleep (if I was lucky) with me coming home and dropping to sleep the minute my head hit the pillow. However, this brought to home the fact that I was lucky enough to have these small comforts with the promise of food at sunset when families around the world don't know when their next meal will be.

The degree show itself was an opportunity to meet like minded people and have a discussion of my work which I admit I was nervous about in case I couldn't form coherent sentences under pressure! However the private view turned out to be an amazing night and my work had more positive feedback than I thought it would.

I exhibited my 'Unsettled' series in book form of images which can be found in my portfolio tab. This past month was a good reminder for me to practice more patience, to complain less and to be more giving throughout the year as we all should do- spread positivity around!
